  4. A Message • On May 2nd Pastor Rob informed us during his series Good News for the Poor: “ You Can Make a Difference,” that there are parts of the world where true water crises do exist. • Video Clip • Where infant Mortality Rates are staggering • Where girls spend their days collecting (contaminated) water for their families instead of being able to attend school

  5. A True Water Crisis • ~ 884 million people worldwide lack access to safe water, and 2.5 billion lack basic sanitation • more than 4,200 children die each DAY ( every 20 seconds) from diarrheal diseases caused by unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation facilities (UNICEF). • ~ 88 % of all illnesses in the developing world are caused by lack of access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene • WHO states that access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene can reduce the infant mortality rate by 65%

  6. Water Crisis in Aber, Uganda! • Uganda ranks among the top 25 countries in the world whose children die before their 5th Birthday. • Aber community development area is located in North Central Uganda ~ 63,720 people live in 95 villages (home of Grace Akalo) • When asked what projects the residents of Aber needed to be worked on right away, water and education were their priorities.

  7. Aber Community

  8. A Solution • World Vision’s (world wide) Water and Sanitation Project • A responsible and experienced approach to solving Aber’s Water Crisis through : • education • community involvement • constructing new borehole water wells and repairing existing wells • other measures to ensure stability of the environment surrounding the water source.

  9. When World Vision drilling teams strike water, entire villages erupt in celebration. “God has now blessed us with clean water in our village,” says Massa Lamin, a volunteer pump attendant in Sierra Leone. Nobody knows the value of a deep well better than Massa. She lost four of her children to diarrhea caused by contaminated water. Testimony

  10. Deep Well • Deep Well ~ $13,700 (2009) • A deep well fitted with a hand pump can provide up to 2,800 gallons of safe water a day to benefit as many as 300 people!

  11. Please Help This Story Have a Happy Ending/Beginning • Shares of the deep well will be sold at NPC ( these could make wonderful Christmas gifts …) • The amount of the gift will be determined by the giver and a card (without the dollar amount) will be included. • Our hope is that we sell enough shares to purchase a Deep Well (from World Vision) for the Aber Community for a Christmas Present • Together as a congregation WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
