  2. Narcotics are drugs valuable in the field of medicine. Narcotics when use wrongly, may lead to abuse.

  3. KINDS OF NARCOTICS AND IT’S MEDICAL USE • Opium - relieves pain, induces sleep, relieves anxiety and depression

  4. Morphine - pain killer

  5. Heroin - used to help people overcome their addiction to morphine-

  6. Codeine - used as ingredients in cough medicine

  7. Effects of Narcotic Abuse • To one’s self – drowsiness, loss of appetite, inability to sleep well, hepatitis, tetanus and AIDS (from contaminated syringe needles), skin abscesses, inflammation of the veins, congestion of the lungs, loss of enthusiasm in work or study, loss of personal care and hygiene, psychological and physical dependence on the drug

  8. To Family – neglected responsibilities, difficulty to keep a job, financial difficulty due to cost of rehabilitation, shame and embarrassment to other family members, disorganized and unhappy family

  9. To Community – increase incidence of crime, occurrence of different kinds of accidents, presence of rampant stealing, economic destabilization due to less manpower

  10. The crime figures of the Narcotics Command (NARCOM) speaks for themselves. • 75% of all crimes in Metro Manila are drug related • 37% of all crimes nationwide are related to drugs • One drug-related rape occurs every 19 hours • At least 20 people are killed everyday in drug related violence • Around 50 drug-related crimes against property occur each day

  11. Break the Habit Drug addiction is a bad habit that is hard to break due to physical and psychological dependence on the drug. The more serious effects of drug addiction are conditions such as • Tolerance – the ability to resist the effects of drugs over a period of time, shown by increasing the dose again and again even when large doses no longer bring the feeling of well-being.

  12. Withdrawal Syndrome – experienced by a person who is physically dependent on drugs and abruptly stops taking them. The person . Within the first 12 to 16 hrs after the drug is withdrawn the person becomes increasingly restless, anxious and weak with some shaking of the arms and legs. On the third day of withdrawal convulsions may occur and the effect is far more dangerous.

  17. Responsible decisions lies in the hands of every individual What is your choice??? Simply say: “NO” to Drugs!!!
