OVERVIEW: Founded in 1967 by the Anza-Borrego Committee Only non-profit organization that supports Anza-Borrego Desert State Park Ecologically diverse desert landscape covering more than 600,000 acres ranging across Southern California The mission of the Anza-Borrego Foundation is to protect and preserve the natural landscapes, wildlife habitat, and cultural heritage of Anza-Borrego Desert State Park for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations.

HISTORIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS: Surrounding land owned by several different people/organizations Expanded park boundaries 10% of park was randomly split into thousands of in holdings Collected millions of dollars from sponsors/programs Acquired 50,000 acres of in holdings and properties for the park

  4. *ABF stands for the Anza-Borrego Foundation WHY SHOULD WE SUPPORT THE ABF*? Awareness about desert environment Ways to protect it Prevents human influence in the park Stops issues resulting from human activity Protects a species

  5. RAISING AWARENESS: Runs programs/classes about desert habitat Teaches public about important plants/animals in the park Shows how humans can affect the environment negatively Gives new ways of how to protect the environment

  6. HUMAN INFLUENCE: Litter in the Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Prevents human influence in the park Stops issues resulting from human activity Designates areas for camping/hiking Give fines for littering and/or abusing the environment Restricts hunting

  7. PROTECT THE SPECIES: Anza-Borrego’s bighorn sheep 1.5 million bighorn sheep in 1800s Human activity caused sheep population to dwindle at less than 3% Only 280 bighorn in U.S. and 200 find refuge in park Over ¼ million dollars spent to improve the bighorn sheep habitat Protecting bighorn also protect other species using sheep as a food source

  8. YOU MIGHT THINK: Not enough money to support foundation Difficult to get money Transportation issues

  9. SOLUTION: School can run fundraisers as they have before Would be inspirational to others to donate money Participating in assisting our community Every penny counts!

  10. IN CONCLUSION: ABF provides benefits that UCHS should participate in Help the national park and species for future generations Brings us one step closer to understanding and protecting our environment All we have to do is get involved!
