This lesson focuses on understanding what makes teenagers happy in today's society compared to those in the Middle Ages. Students will create a list of happiness factors to share with their partners, and then collaboratively explore how different cultures impact happiness. Using criteria such as education, relationships, and overall wellbeing, students will analyze societal advancements over the last century. Finally, they will create posters to visually compare and contrast the happiness of teens across cultures and time periods.

Why is Life so Great Now? • People say that our society has progressed immensely over the past 100 years. • We have had huge breakthroughs in science, healthcare, technology, business, and humanitarian aid. • In your journal, on a new page, I want you to answer the following question… • Why is life so great right now? Are people happy in today’s society?
What are you doing? • You will create a poster, comparing a society from the Middle Ages with our current culture today • You will base it on the criteria we have created for how to judge happiness • Your poster will be an outline of one of your group members
