Some of the “Its”…of course there are more!For some, “IT” is a start, for others, a continuation… • Fulfilling the Order’s (four) purposes and mission! • Provide meaningful life-time experiences that provide service and fellowship • Growing exposure to the rich experiences of camping, BSA’s High Adventure bases, and OA programs • Integrating FUN with learning important life lessons • Bringing the scouting experience to more people • Build on our Founder’s visions

What have been some of the components of “IT” success in your lodge? • everyone is on-board and committed to a goal • build awareness & excitement • FUN is built in through involvement • resources maximized • traditions or innovations • training • pride, inspiration, loyalty, service to others • recognition

  6. 3 Keys to Success for Advisers • Guide youth in implementation of OA program(s)In working with the Lodge Chief and LEC • Advises youth in recruiting youth leadership and recruits adults for advisers • Ensures that ongoing quality training takes place • Prioritizes communication & follow-up to the top

How do you recruit leadership?(share your successes and challenges within your group) • What are clues to look for? • When do you do it? • How did you do it? • What got in the way? • How do you keep it going? • Is it the same with youth or adults? Breakout #1Your group will identify some pieces to the puzzle of recruiting youth and adult leadership and how you dealt with them (10 minutes discuss)(2 minutes to share out)(2 minutes Q & A)write down your 1 goal to improve recruiting leadership

  10. Effective training includes: • Knowledge base established • Learning objectives are clearly stated • Clear expectations during and afterward • There is an understanding of competency • Includes repetitive practice

  12. Great communication… • Is understanding that communication is a skill • Is consistent • Requires attentiveness • Is multidirectional • Keeps stress in check • Includes understanding it on three levels-the words we choose, how we say them, and our body language when we say them

What are the 3 keys to making your Advising life easier and more productive? • Keep an Eagle’s eye out for potential leadership and then empower them. • Training is at the heart of Scouting and the OA. It is necessary and ongoing for everyone. • Communication and Follow-up need to be at the top of your list of “to-do’s.”

  14. As Lodge Advisers, you have the unique capacity to inspire and move large numbers of people to action…that’s “IT!”
