  2. Aim for today • Understand the 3 types of levers that are used in everyday life and how they affect different sports.

Quiz • How does newton’s 2nd law relate to the overhead clear in badminton? • What is the agonist, antagonist and bones involved in the following movements: • Flexion at the hip, Extension at the knee, dorsi-flexion of ankle • Name the 3 stages of skill learning and a sentences describing each one.

  4. Levers • All levers have 3 basic parts. • Resistance/Load • Pivot/Fulcrum • Force/Effort • Depending on the way they are sequenced depends on the class of lever it is. • Levers are in 3 categories , 1st, 2nd and 3rd class.

Levers Cont… • What is the purpose of the following; crowbar and golf club? • Crowbar • Is designed to move a resistance with a small input of force (Move a resistance) • Golf Club • Designed to generate high velocities at one end that can be passed on to another object (Velocity and momentum)

  6. Levers Cont… • The general rule with levers, the longer the lever the greater the velocity that can be generated. • Why isn’t a badminton racquet made 2m long?

  7. 1st Class lever • This is where the fulcrum/pivot lies between the effort and load.

  8. 2nd Class lever • This is where the load lies between the fulcrum and the effort.

  9. 3rd Class lever • This is where the effort lies between the fulcrum and the load.

  10. Activity Time • In groups of 3 • Come up with 2 real world examples for each of the levers & 2 physical settings (sports etc).
