  1. STEM Agenda Week 31 4/8 – 4/12

  2. Agenda 4/8 Learning Target: Brainstorm and research wind turbine ideas. Agenda: • Turn in Safety Pledge!!! • Review Wind Turbines Project (DUE 4/19) • Begin Design Process Steps • Define the Problem • Brainstorm • Research • Finish All Safety tests on YOUR OWN time

  3. The Problem • Design and build two different model wind turbines to find which can generate the most energy. • You will prove the energy generated by lifting weights and measuring the energy output. • Constraints: • Plastic or Balsa Wood? • Turbine blades can be no longer than the radius of the box fans. Why? • Complete and ready to submit to Kidwind Project website on April 15th (Monday)

  4. Problem, Brainstorm, and Research • Problem: Design and create two model wind turbines that can generate the most energy. • What are some things to consider? • Materials • Angle of blade • Number of blades • Shape of blades • Wind speed of box fans • Gear ratio • High or low torque generator • Document problem, brainstorming, and research in engineering notebook

  5. HOMEWORK 4/8 • Get your safety pledge signed! • Finish any/all safety tests online • Either print out and turn in or email me a screen shot of the test showing your name and score.

  6. Agenda 4/8 (Period 5) Target: Research wind turbine ideas and begin designing blades. Agenda: • Design Process for Wind Turbines • Define the Problem • Brainstorm • Research • Develop Ideas • Get signed off! • Begin designing wind turbines?

  7. Agenda 4/9 Target: Research wind turbine ideas and begin designing blades. Agenda: • Design Process for Wind Turbines • Define the Problem • Brainstorm • Research • Develop Ideas • Get signed off! • Begin designing wind turbines? • TURN IN SAFETY PLEDGE

  8. Develop Ideas (How to Document) You need two documented in your engineering notebook that addresses things to be considered from brainstorming and research. • Draw a picture of the two designs you will try • Shape • dimensions • Describe the designs • how many blades • why you have chosen this design

  9. Agenda 4/9 Learning Target: Design wind turbine model blades. Agenda: • Begin creating wind turbine blades • Test on various wind towers & nacelles • Modify your design to make your blades more efficient • TURN IN SAFETY PLEDGE

  10. Build Your Turbine Models • See all gear ratio and motor combinations for the nacelle • All design process steps 1-4 in notebook • Mrs. Davis will check and sign off all team members • Select and outline rotor blades on chosen material (balsa or plastic)

  11. Agenda 4/10 Learning Target: Design wind turbine model blades. TURN IN SAFETY PLEDGE Agenda: • Finish design process steps 1-4 • Begin creating wind turbine blades • Test on various wind towers & nacelles • Modify your design to make your blades more efficient

  12. Agenda 4/11 Learning Target: Design wind turbine model blades. TURN IN SAFETY PLEDGE Agenda: • Finish design process steps 1-4 • Begin creating wind turbine blades • Test on various wind towers & nacelles • Modify your design to make your blades more efficient

  13. Agenda 4/12 Learning Target: Design wind turbine model blades. TURN IN SAFETY PLEDGE Agenda: • Finish design process steps 1-4 • Begin creating wind turbine blades • Test on various wind towers & nacelles • Modify your design to make your blades more efficient
