  2. 8th Grade Agenda 11/18 • Learning Target: • I can discuss the factors that affect homeostasis. • I can describe steps to prevent food borne illness. • Discuss Answers to Heart Rate and Blood Pressure Lab • Begin “Mystery Illness” • Notes on 4 Steps to Preventing Food Borne Illness • Food Safety Mobile Game • Answer Conclusion Questions #1 & #2

Mystery IllnessDay 1 • Use the Food Safety Tips web link on Mrs. Davis’s website to take notes in your Engineering Notebook on the “top tips” for each of the four safety steps. • Play the Food Safety Mobile Game linked on Mrs. Davis’s website to test your knowledge about food safety. • Answer Conclusion Questions #1 & #2 in complete sentences your notebook. • What is a pathogen? • What are the four main steps in maintaining food safety?

  4. 8th Grade Agenda 11/19 • Learning Target: I can diagnose the pathogen responsible for a patient’s illness. • Discuss Food Borne Illness Notes • Add Note Organizer to Notebook • Use the Least Wanted Pathogens web link on Mrs. Davis’s website to take notes on 5 food borne pathogens • Create flow chart in notebook

  5. Creating a flow chart • Fill out parts of flow chart with: • Time to onset of symptoms • Symptoms • Common foods responsible • Cut out parts and create flow chart by gluing pieces into notebook. • When finished, get signed off by Mrs. Davis.

  6. 8th Grade Agenda 11/20 • Learning Target: I can diagnose the pathogen responsible for a patient’s illness. • Use the Least Wanted Pathogens web link on Mrs. Davis’s website to take notes on 5 food borne pathogens • Listeria time to onset can be found on FDA: Listeria web link • Create flow chart in notebook

  7. Creating a flow chart • Fill out parts of flow chart with: • Incubation Period (Time to Onset) • Symptoms (Bottom Triangle) • Causes (Common Foods Responsible) • Cut out parts and create flow chart by gluing pieces into notebook. • When finished, get signed off by Mrs. Davis.

  9. 8th Agenda 11/22 • Learning Target: I can diagnose the pathogen responsible for a patient’s illness. • Finish Flow Charts • In groups (of 4 in 4th period) (partner groups in 5th period) you will be given a patient with an illness, your job is to create a presentation of no more than 6 slides detailing: • Patient history • Vital signs • Probable pathogen (include an image and mode of infection) • Is the pathogen contagious or infectious? • How does the pathogen enter the body? Ingested, inhaled, absorbed, etc. • Common treatment plan • Prevention • Finish Creating Presentations Monday 11/25 • Present on Monday and Tuesday 11/26
