  11. What do mentors do? Help the mentees with LP and everything related to planning and delivering the lesson

  12. What do mentors do? • Attend the pre-service (not on vacation) • Help plan and present the Academic Meetings • Help the mentee with coaching sessions (face-to-face or over the phone) • Observe the mentees • Give them feedback • Welcome the mentees in class for observation

  13. What do mentors do? BABYSIT THE NEW TEACHERS! • Remind the new teachers to CHECK their mailbox on a daily basis • The new teachers should reply all messages • Every message will be cc’ed to you • In case you have problems, call me! 3816 9447 or 8184 7154

  15. OBSERVATION It’s NOT personal The idea is to help/challenge the new teacher Focus on the principles Focus on facts

  16. FEEDBACK • It’s NOT personal • The idea is to help/challenge the new teacher • Focus on the principles • How can you challenge that teacher? • Use the updated form

  17. The Cycle

  18. CYCLE ONE Round 1: The mentee observes your class Round 2: You observe the mentee’s class Round 3: The mentee observes your class Round 4: The mentee observes your class Round 5: The mentee observes your class Round 6: You observe the mentee’s class

  19. When the mentee observes the mentor or another teacher What’s the idea? • To identify the principles • To have a model to follow • To reflect on his/her own TP

  20. You observe the mentee´s class • Pre-meeting (face-to-face or over the phone) • CLASS OBSERVATION (take notes) • Post-meeting: aka FEEDBACK session • Fill out the form and send itto him/her • Update the mentee´s manager(s) • Mentee reads it, makes comments, signs it and returns all the original docs to you • You sign it and send it to Anninha

  21. When the mentee observes the mentor, s/he should have FORM A or FORM B with him/her

  22. After all the observations (end of CYCLE ONE), you must send all the forms (observation form + feedback form) to Anninha

  23. CYCLE TWO The mentor observes the mentee’s class (final assessment)

  24. CYCLE THREE* The mentor observes the mentee’s class (if the previous one was not successful)

  25. ATTENTION 1 The mentee, the manager, the mentor CANNOT choose another teacher to be observed – if needed The Academic Department will inform you who the teacher is

  26. ATTENTION 2 The mentee CANNOT simplyshow up at a teacher’s class The other teacher MUST be informed of the mentee’s visit IN ADVANCE

  27. ATTENTION 3 Academic Meeting #1 Academic Meeting #2 Academic Meeting #3 Academic Meeting #4 Academic Meeting #5
