  1. Problem of the Day • You have three drinking glasses labeled A, B, and C with a total of 72 mL of water in the three of them in different amounts per glass. You pour half the contents of B into A. Then you pour 1/5 of the new contents of A into C. Now all three glasses have 24 mL in them. How many mL did each glass contain before you started pouring?

  2. Problem of the Day • The glasses [A, B, C] originally had [6, 48, 18] mL respectively. After all the pouring, B contains half of what it originally had, so it started at 48 mL and lost 24 in pouring. An eqation for the amount originally in A is 4/5[A+24]=24. Solving, A=6. Then we calculate C=72-24-6=18.)

  3. The Geography of India • Located on the subcontinent of India • A large landmass that juts out of Asia • Situated just south of the Himalayan & Hindu Kush Mountains • Located in between the Indus River and the Ganges River • Climate dominated by monsoons • Strong, often violent winds that change direction with the seasons

  4. India’s Monsoons • India’s winters are hot and dry: winds blow from the northeast with very little moisture

  5. India’s Monsoons • India’s summer sees winds blowing from the southwest • The summer is dominated by torrential rainstorms often causing violent landslides; however are welcomed by farmers and to provide electricity

  6. India Hindu Kush Mountains Himalayan Mountains • These factors kept the culture of the Indus River very isolated from the rest of Asia Indus River Ganges River
