  2. When to Take Notes • Different color= listen carefully (might be on test ) • Underline=take notes • Nothing=just listen

  3. Buddhism from China • Had to do rituals • Costs a lot of money • Time-consuming • Only rich people could do it • But, poor people were equally religious

  4. Zen (Buddhism) • Required studying • Needed a teacher • If you did that= Nirvana • Samurais=Zen • Made flowers and trees • Meditated in special gardens

  5. Pure Land (Buddhism) • People did not have the time to meditate + study • So, they made Pure Land • Chant Buddha’s name=Nirvana • It was called Ambidism

  6. Why were new forms created? • No time • Not enough money for rituals • No time + no money= Pure Land Buddhism
