  1. Captain Underpants to The Rescue Books For Boys

  2. What to look for in boys books • (and struggling girls, too!) • Compelling storyline and credible characters • Supportive formatting that includes illustrations and appropriate text placement on the page • Straightforward plot and sentence structure • Topics and issues in which readers can make personal/emotional connections • Good Covers

  3. Graphic Novels Graphic novels tie into boys’ spatial/concrete preferences with books that look like comics. Jimmy Sniffles: Dognapped, Bone, Artemis Fowl Graphic Novel, You Wouldn’t Want To Be A… series

  4. Books With Lists Boys tend to compartmentalize information. Examples: Hank Zipzer series, World Almanac For Kids (I thought of this one), The World’s Deadliest Snakes

  5. Visually Engaging These books don’t have many words, but it still counts! Boys need more sensory/tactile activities and visuals are especially important. Examples: I Spy, Where’s Waldo?

  6. Books About Things To Do Boys like to read about things you do. Examples: Bike Tricks, Card Collecting, something with magic tricks

  7. Boy Friendly Non-Fiction A touch of the gruesome always gets their attention! Examples: Outside and Inside Mummies

  8. “Grossology” – A new genre The grosser the better (anything with bathroom humor) Examples: Dino Dung, Disgusting Bugs, Captain Underpants

  9. Other good choices Examples: Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Melvin Beederman, Geronimo Stilton, Secrets of Droon, Spongebob, Star Wars, Scooby Doo, Eragon
