  2. Presentation Task 2 (P1, M1) • Clearly explain and describe (with images) what is meant by and give examples of; • Verbal Communication • Non Verbal communication • Written Communication • Technological aids

  3. Communication Skills • Do not merely read from the PPt. • Look at your audience. • Speak clearly and confidently on your subject. • Use non verbal and verbal communication skills. • Ensure both of you are presenting. • Have a clear conclusion and allow time for questions.

Recap: The Communication Cycle 1 For P2- You must explain the 6 main parts of the communication cycle to show you understand how things can get in the way thus creating a barrier: 1 Ideas occur - eg you think of something you want to communicate 2 Message coded – you think how you are going to say it 3Message sent – you send it 4Message received – other person receives it. 5Message decoded – the other person has to interpret your message (decoding) 6 Message Understood – If you have communicated clearly, the other person has concentrated and there are no barriers to communication then the person understands your message and gives you feedback

Next Task Assignment 2: Identifying and Overcoming Barriers Task 1 (P2) • Make a mind map that identifies barriers to effective communication. • Explain the communication cycle. • Choose 8 factors that you have identified on your mind map. Describe how these factors can act as barriers to effective communication and suggest ways to overcome them. You will need to read P 8 – 15 of Ch 1 of the book.

After H term Assignment 3a: Take Part in a One-to-one Interaction Task 1 (P3) • Explain how the communication cycle. Works by practicing it • Imagine that you are working for a telephone help line for the NHS or you are a doctor consulting a patient. Write a script with a partner on an issue of your choosing and perform it. Identify communication skills that you use and write them on the scripts such as tone of voice, use of language, expression and body language. • Homework - Research NHS direct and write a script between an adviser and a patient on a particular illness. No longer than 5 mins to perform.
