  15. Handling Small Enhancements • What’s a small enhancement? • Minor SW changes, enhancements, or additions • Information based assumption that these will require low level of effort • Items not appropriate to have a Business Case • Items not appropriate for Exploratory Research Evaluation

  16. Handling Small Enhancements • What Info is Needed? • Information needed to do an analysis to determine the level of effort/risk required • OSIP Stage 1, SON and Project Plan • OSIP Stage 2, ConOps / ORD and Updated Project Plan • If this is a small enhancement the amount of info to be documented should be minimal, but should be concise and understood both scientifically and technically.

  17. Handling Small Enhancements • When are items forwarded to AWIPS SREC • Items can be submitted to the AWIPS SREC when the information needed to do analysis is available and involved parties agree info is understood • This can happen at Gate 1 or 2 • The info needed stays the same • If redirected to AWIPS SREC for analysis and low level of effort is determined, prioritization and placement into a release will occur • Items identified as a medium or high risk/level of effort will continue with Stage 2 of OSIP

  18. Handling Small Enhancements • The request will be reviewed by SEC and evaluated based on the following criteria • No Exploratory Research Evaluation required • No security impacts • Data is less than 50 mbytes/hr and familiar (low risk) data stream • Communications traffic volume will not impact terrestrial WAN or SBN • Software development effort to design, develop, test and implement is less than 2 months • Utilization of CPU, RAM, disk I/O, LAN network I/O and disk storage likely to increase less than 1% of total available on target platform • No direct cost for project implementation, any recurring cost, logistics or maintenance cost and no anticipated future replacement or upgrade cost. Only cost is the development, testing and deployment. • Operational Requirements are complete • Only AWIPS development and integration resources are required • No impact on existing critical interfaces • Items that meet this criteria will be determined to be low level of effort and risk tasks.
