  1. Data Management in Mobile Computing A. Illarramendi UPV/EHU (Spain)

  2. Developed Data Services • Locker Rental Service (LRS) • Software Retrieval Service (SRS) • Location-dependent Query Processor (LDQP). • Aingeru and MOLEC

  3. Locker Rental Service (LRS)(Caching and replication management) • This service incorporates mechanisms that allow mobile users to rent storage space, called lockers, situated in a proxy. • Data stored in a data locker are available even when the mobile device is diconnected. • Specific tasks can be carried out at the proxy on behalf of the mobile user. • The architecture is based on mobile agents • The lockers stay alwways close to the location of the user (lockers can travel)

  4. Software Retrieval Service (SRS)(Wireless optimization) • This service allows users to select and retrieve software in an easy, efficient and adaptive way. Based on the use of an ontology and the agent technology • Easy: with the help of knowledge-driven agents, users can browse locally the ontology that describes semantically software elements. • Efficient: taking advantage of the capability of mobile agents to deal with disconnections and to move to other computers, agents optimize the use of the wireless media • Adaptive:agents take into account the network status , past user actions

  5. Location-dependent Query Processor (LDQP). (Location Management) • A system that supports distributed processing of continuous location-dependant queries. • Not only the users issuing queries but also other interesting objects can move. • Efficient performance of these queries in a continuous way. • The architecture is based on mobile agents

  6. Developed Data Services (Energy aware data management) • AINGERU (tele assistance) • Local reasoning using Semantic Web Services (RACER) • MOLEC (ECG on_line monitoring) • Big amount of data • Local real time analysis

  7. AINGERU • Goal: to develop an agent based data system for a new way of tele-assistance

  9. Research • Basic • Semantic communications among agent based data systems using ontologies • Applied • E-health

  10. Communication among agents • Currently: • Based on the interchange of messages. • Agents must be aware in advance of the: • Structure • Language • Meaning of the messages • Syntactic Communication

  11. Semantic communication Our proposal: Mechanism based on the use of an ontology (COMMONT) that allows to agents • To comunicate with agents that use different communication languages • To understand, completely or partially the received messages

  12. Main features of the ontology. • Three interrelated layers • Top layer • Middle layer • Bottom layer • Four categories • Communication Acts • Actors • Subjects • Contents
