  1. Field Study:Basics of Hardware and SoftwareInput/Output (I/O) Devices Patrick Bautista Joseph Belton Ryan Loughlin Raul Rodriguez Professor Fang Fang February 8th, 2007

  2. In this presentation we will….. • Explain how I/O devices function inside a computer system • Identify the spectrum in which I/O devices can affect a computer’s performance • List I/O devices most major brands and their equivalent costs. • Make recommendations to an array of users that will help make their life easier and more convenient

  3. How the products work and function in a computer system. Input Devices: • Keyboard • Mouse • Scanner • Digital camera • Joystick • Microphone • Webcam • Xbox

  4. A hardware device that sends information into the CPU. Without any input devices a computer would simply be a display device and not allow users to interact with it, much like a TV.

  5. Output Devices: • Monitor • Printer • Speakers • Sound card • Video card • Any peripheral that receives and/or displays output from a computer.

  6. Components with a Major Affect on Computer Performance • Video Displays - Monitors • CRT - Cathode Ray Tube • LCD - Liquid Crystal Display

  7. Factors that Affect Computer Performance • Viewing Size • Dot Pitch / Pixel Pitch • Optimal Resolution • Main Memory • Special Memory (Video Card)

  8. Components with a Minor Affect on Computer Performance • Printer • Scanner • Keyboard • Gaming Keyboard • Mouse • Optical Mouse • Laser Mouse
