  1. Reflections On Turning 65 By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. How many times have we read, say, the final published article of a retiring journalist, or heard the retirement speech of a star athlete or performer?  There is a mixture of feelings at those times, but often what dominates the conversation is the sense of how fast the years have gone past, and a feeling of regret at roads not taken.

  2. Reflections On Turning 65 By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. Something changes, and it is hard to express it in words, but something is different when the clock goes past 65.    However far off it may still be, we now know that the end of the road is on the horizon, and that is a very different feeling than when one turns, say, 50.

  3. Reflections On Turning 65 By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. How do we keep these feelings of regret from overwhelming us?  How do we refrain from wishing that we could turn back the clock on events, places, and people, in our lives?   Perhaps there is something in all of us that creates this push/pull emotion; that is, we are wanting to push forward, and enjoy what life has to offer, but we are pulled into memories of the past at times.

  4. Reflections On Turning 65 By Benedict T. Palen, Jr. I think that we have to find a balance. And that starts with treating every day as a gift. Every day is our chance to make a difference, even in a small, personal, way, in this world. It is from those small things that we gain a perspective on the breadth of life, and realize that there are seasons in each of our lives; some bring joy, some bring sadness, some bring pain.   The post 65 period in our lives is yet another season, and it is one where many of us gain some more freedom to reflect, appreciate, and savor, each day.    Look forward to each day!
