  1. Welcome Families! Bridge House 2019-2020

House Expectations Student Expectations Be respectful Be responsible Academic Expectations • Students are expected to come to class prepared. • A planner must be brought to all four house classes. Use of the planner is required - not optional. • Test dates will be planned by house teachers, and they will be on different days when possible. • Students should never have three or four tests on the same day, and we will try to avoid having two tests on the same day. • Quizzes may be planned on the same day, but we do try to avoid too much overlap.

  3. Behavior Consequences Failure to follow rules in class will result in: 1. Verbal Warning 2. Seat Removal 3. Student will call home explaining behavior 4. Send directly to the office for additional consequences. ***POSITIVE BEHAVIOR*** • Students can earn “Bridge Toll Tickets” by displaying respect or responsibility. • These tickets will be combined in-house for a raffle at the end of each grading period.

Social Studies - Mrs. Wilson Social Studies Units We will study the 5 Themes of Geography: •Location: Position on the Earth's Surface (Absolute/Relative)... •Place: Physical and Human Characteristics... •Human/Environment Interaction: How humans interact/adapt to their environment... •Movement: Humans Interacting on the Earth… •Regions: Places with unifying characteristics.... We will also study: •Australia and New Zealand •South America •Europe to include WWI and WWII • Review The United States and Continents/Oceans

  5. Math – Mrs. Lynn Course Concepts • Number Systems • Expressions and Equations • Ratios and Proportions • Data Analysis • Geometry Chromebooks & Google Classroom • Utilized for book notes, homework help, resources… • Monthly problem solving and math vocabulary

  6. Literacy - Mrs. Tavaglione • Article of the Week • Independent Book Projects • Novel Units • Writing Projects

  7. Science - Mr. Saddler Science Units • Nature of Science • Magnets and Motors • Earth in Space • Project Lead the Way: Energy and the Environment • Science Binder • Our Textbook/Documentation of Units

  8. Science - Mr. Saddler • Inquiry Days: End of school year culminating activity • Boats, Chariots, Catapults, Rube Goldberg • Fundraising: Wreath sales end November 4th Nov. 25th delivery day • Volunteers will be needed to compile orders on date of delivery (Nov 25th).

  9. SSR (6th pd) Extended Learning (9th pd) Sustained Silent Reading • Students remain in their 5th period class • 20 minutes to read for pleasure daily • Complete 10 Book Points each 9 weeks Interventions • Teachers have a scheduled rotation for interventions. • Students may also advocate for assistance. • Make up missed work/quizzes/tests due to absences. • New this year - FR Fridays

Intervention Schedule Day 1 &Day 2 Math or Science Use of formative assessment, quiz/test scores, missed HW/labs, etc Day 3& Day 4 Literacy or Social Studies Use of formative assessment, quiz/test scores, missed HW/projects, etc Day 5 & Day 6 Student Advocacy Help with HW, centers, labs, projects, technology, Middle Core, etc

  11. Technology • We will use Google Classroom in each subject. • Electronic Devices are not mandatory or needed. Chromebooks are available to all students in every class. • Cell phones are kept in baskets at desks for easy access if needed. Students are permitted to use devices in the event of an emergency, but must ask permission before making calls or texts. • Cell phones are not permitted in hallways or bathrooms.

  12. How do I know what is going on? Remind App - House Homework Information • We will be using the Remind site/app for daily communication between school and home. • One message will be sent each day from the house with daily homework. • The app will not show individual phone numbers - it will only display messages.
