  2. Naviance: What is it? • Web-based resource that supports student career and college planning • Used by the guidance staff to communicate with students and parents • Used to process all transcripts and recommendation letters

  3. Freshman year • Build a strong foundation…semester averages will be posted to your transcript • Develop good study habits & time management skills • Get involved in your school and community • Explore careers • Make a 4 year plan that will help you achieve your long term goals • Meet with your counselor in the spring to discuss course selection

Sophomore year • Earn good grades in the highest level courses that are appropriate for you • Stay involved in your school and community • Look into the future (Excel TECC, PSEO, AP, IB) • Take the PLAN and PSAT • Register for the Question of the Day on ACT and SAT websites • Make the most of summer: volunteer, explore careers & colleges, go to a camp, get a job

Junior year • Visit colleges • Take the PSAT • Take ACT or SAT at end of year • Take solid electives: extra math, science, global language • Volunteer for leadership positions in your extracurricular activities • Get to know admissions criteria for your top colleges • Remember: The GPA you end the year with is the one you will be using for college applications!

Senior year • Finalize list of colleges • Meet with your counselor to discuss the application process • Apply to colleges (note deadlines for special programs and scholarships) • Retake the ACT and/or SAT • Revisit colleges • Complete the FAFSA • Apply for scholarships • Make final college choices by May 1st • Graduate!
