  3. Classroom Basics • Two (2)hall passes per semester. • Ask first, wait for a response, take pass. • Enter and exit using outside door ONLY. • Follow the school tardy/truancy policy. • Homework needs to be ready for submission before the bell rings. • Staple or paper clip your work BEFORE the bell rings. • Class time is not for stapling or clipping!!! • Work not ready for submission will not be collected.

  4. Grades • A grade value is NOT assigned to all work! • Do not expect grades to be rounded up. An 89.9 is a B! • 70% of grade: Tests, essays, quizzes • 30% of grade: Class work and homework • Classwork and homework range 10-25 points • Tests, quizzes, essays, and paragraphs, range 25-150 points • Some writing assignments will be part of 30%

  7. Expectations • Meet the challenges of the class. Do NOT just get through the class! • Neat, well-organized work • Writing that is a struggle to read, showing little effort and/or thought will earn a D • Illegible and/or messy; showing little effort and/or thought = 0 (No credit!) • Thoughtful, well-developed work • Self-disciplined, focused students • Complete all work as assigned. • Study, Study, Study! • Be in class ready to work • Listen, view, discuss, write • Take notes! • Integrity • NO CHEATING • Homework, class work, tests, essays, etc.

  8. Review the cartoon on the next slide. On a separate piece of paper, answer the following questions as each applies to the cartoon. • What? • What is given? • Why? • Why is the writer giving us this information • What is the purpose? • How? • How does the writer present his purpose? • Consider the words and the visuals. • Understanding the reference in the visual is helpful.
