  3. Reproduction and Young - Litter size : 2-4 kittens The mother raises the kittens on her own The kittens stay with the mother until they are 1½ - 2 yrs.

  4. Life Cycle - Cougars can live for 8-13 yrs. in the wild Cougars can live up to 25 yrs. in captivity

  5. Habitat and Range- They live in all forests They live in grasslands They also live in lowlands They live mostly in southern ontario

  6. Diet- Cougars hunt their prey They eat deer, mice, squirrels, porcupines, raccoons, rabbits, and beavers

  7. Behavior- Cougars are solitary animals They are very territorial and actively avoid other cats

  8. Predators- American black bear Grizzly bear Grey wolf Jaguar

  9. Defense Mechanisms- Run Hide Fight

  10. Anatomy and Appearance- Height: 2-2.3 feet at shoulders Length: 3.5-5.5 feet (2-2.5 foot tail length) Weight: 110-180 lbs. for males ; females weigh slightly less

  11. Threats- They have been persecuted They are hunted as being a threat to livestock Some other threats include habitat loss and poaching

  12. Conservation- It is prohibited to harm or kill a cougar It is also prohibited to ruin a cougars habitat They are protected under the regulations of MNR (ministry of natural resources)
