  4. The CDO/AVP for the Division of Multicultural Affairs will serve as the administrative liaison and coordinate the Culture of Community R.I.S.E. Committees. • Respect and Well-Being • Inclusion and Awareness • Spirit and Tradition • Excellence through Engagement Note: The President and AVP are ex officio members of each RISE Committee. CDO/AVP’s Role

  5. Culture of Community is the shared set of values and expectations that influence how we interact and collaborate with one another to achieve common goals at Youngstown State University. What is Culture of Community?

  6. Mission: Model the 4 basic tenets that are pillars of the CoC initiative. R I S E Excellence - Engagement Inclusion & Awareness Respect & Well-Being Spirit & Tradition riser

  7. The composition of the RISE Committees will be reflective of diversity with a balanced representation from students, faculty, staff and community from the former CoC Collaborative constituents. The level of involvement with the committees may be extended through the use of subcommittees and special task forces. • The RISE Committees will include a chairperson and secretary. RISE Committee Appointment

  8. Chairperson • Monitor meetings and each sub-committee • Follow up with sub-committee chairs to insure required reports are submitted • Secretary • Provide agenda, record and distribute minutes to members; submit agenda and minutes to DMA/AVP for posting on CoC RISE webpage. Power and Duties

RISE Committees will meet a minimum of once per month per academic year. • All meeting dates shall be posted on the website a week in advance. • RISE Chairpersons will meet with AVP twice a semester. • Agenda and minutes will be recorded by the DMA’s administrative assistant. Each RISE committee will share a common Statement of Purpose and develop its respective annual action plan. • RISE Committee members will be collaborative and model the 4 pillars of the Culture of Community respective of other members and different points of view, and relative to the University and Community as a whole.   11. All annual reports will be submitted to AVP who will provide an update to the Board of Trustees. • There will be an annual meeting of all RISE committees with the President and AVP. • Each committee will provide a brief report during the annual meeting. Committee Expectations cont…

  12. RISE Chairpersons and committee members are expected to communicate reciprocally on a regular basis; committee members are expected to communicate to their constituents and share pertinent information or feedback to chairpersons who will keep the AVP and President informed. Communication

  13. AVP will submit agenda items to the Board of Trustees • When appropriate, the Committee Chairs will attend board meetings • Committee Chairs will be appointed by the President and serve a 2-year term. AVP and Board of Trustees

  14. Each RISE Committee will participate in the Culture of Community campus-wide campaigns that will align with its purpose statement, committee description and annual goals. Collaborative efforts are needed to create a sense of community where all citizens are equally valued and accepted. Campus-Wide Campaigns

Respect and Well-Being Committee will model a: Helps us to understand that as a community we must promote and nurture mutual respect for each other and work to develop a campus community where everyone feels safe and secure. When personal boundaries are respected and conflict resolution skills are developed, the community benefits creating an environment free of criminal behavior and internal threats. Inclusionand Awareness Committee will model a: • Helps us to understand that we all benefit from the unique strengths and perspectives of others and to appreciate the diversity among us for a just and equitable society. Understanding one another will help us overcome and prevent societal divisions. Culture of Inclusion and Awareness

  18. Spirit and Tradition Committee will model a: • Helps us understand the past, while learning that our present and future contributions to the community create history for future generations. Therefore, campus participation and Penguin Pride are essential to building a pride-filled community. Culture of Spirit and Tradition

  19. Excellence through Engagement Committee will model a: • Helps us understand that we must learn to celebrate each other’s accomplishments that create a spirit of excellence and healthy competition among all social groups. It leads to an understanding that true success is better shared; therefore, collaboration and partnerships with other individuals or groups is imperative to the progress of the entire community.
