Regulating the Mass Media
Broadcasting, performing and publishing or distributing media such as books, sound recordings or DVDs may be regulated by governments.
Regulation takes place by: licensing or franchising censorship legislation Broadcasting Commission
Professional associations also regulate the media. They have accepted codes of conduct for those working in the media to deal with issues of fairness, accuracy in reporting, privacy and public morals.
Some of these associations are: The Association of Caribbean Media Workers National Media Associations The Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organisations (CANTO)
Mediating in disputes: organisations that are licensed to broadcast should have a simple and responsive complaints system. If complaints are not dealt with satisfactorily, a regulatory body might become involved.
