  2. Stages of Art • #1 Scribbling- begins about the 13 month, uses crayons and pencils, zigzags, not distinct shapes, by 3 years distinct shapes, mostly circles. Scribbling Distinct shapes

  3. Stages of Art • #2 Preschematic Stage- about 4 years, draw human figures with very large heads and legs coming out of heads, colors used are not realistic. Arms coming out of heads. Large heads.

  4. Stages of Art • #3 Schematic- about 7 years, definite forms, repeat the same forms again and again, figures arranged on a baseline rather than random on the page, x-ray perspective so viewers can see inside and outside of the drawing. Figures arranged on a baseline.

  5. Stages of Art • #4 Realism- about 9 years, drawings are much smaller and include much more detail.

  6. Art v.s. Craft • Art is an opportunity for children to explore art media with no external product goals. • Craft activities require that children produce something that is similar or exactly the same. Art collage. Art- painting the earth. Craft- layered cookies. Craft- hand wreath.

  7. Preparing for an Art Activity: • Children wear smocks • Activity is near the sink Wear smocks.

  8. Preparing for an Art Activity: • Several materials are placed for the children to use • General directions are given and children are allowed to explore Have general directions for teachers to read and children to follow.

  9. Preparing for an Art Activity: • Name, date and child’s explanation of their project is included

  10. Examples of Art Activities Painting. Letter and drawing to mom. Observational drawing of flowers. Easel painting.
