Official Definitions • Element: material that cannot be broken down into simpler materials by ordinary means • Mixture: combination of elements and / or compounds that has not formed a new substance, can be easily separated • Compound: a NEW substance produced when elements combine – form chemical bonds

  6. Card Sort #2 • Put the elements & mixture cards back into baggie & now sort the compound cards into 2 groups • What rule did you use to sort them? • End of Day 1
