White Paper: Healthy Lives, Healthy People • Local public health directors will be moved out of NHS to local authorities • Public health funding will be ring fenced • Allocation to local authorities based on performance • A Health premium will give larger allocations to areas with worst problems (subject to performance) • Emphasis on research and evidence base

  4. Healthy Lives, Healthy People • New national public health service • ‘Nudging’ rather than ‘nannying’ on healthy lifestyles • Role for employers in health promotion • ‘Responsibility Deal’ with business • Strategies on specific health problems to follow • Expand health visitor role

Group work briefIn mixed school / department groups of 5 • Who do we know as a key contact in meeting the new public health agenda? • What skills and knowledge do we have or know of within the University that can assist us in meeting this agenda? • Identify at least three potential collaborative opportunities to meet the new health policy agenda,

Work-Based Studies Framework • Pan-faculty development to enable faculties to respond rapidly to workforce development needs • The scheme incorporates two programmes: UCPD in Work-Based Studies & PG Cert in WBS • Pathways of modules in a pre-specified area lead to named awards (e.g. UCPD in WBS (End of Life Care)/ PG Cert in WBS (Pharmaceutical Quality by Design)

  10. Features of the scheme • The 60 credit total needed for a certificate can be made up of modules of any multiple of 5. A number of ‘step off points’ may be built into courses • Modules focus on the application of learning to practice in the workplace and are taught and assessed accordingly – the mode of study is typically blended • Income flows to the department that delivers the module - Pan Faculty Board of WBS responsible for the QA of all courses that utilise the framework

  11. How do I add a new module(s) to the framework? • Have early discussions with your HoD and your faculty’s business development team • Develop module template(s) • Compete a curriculum modification form and obtain FAC approval for the proposed addition • Complete a checklist and learning outcome mapping exercise for the WBS Board

  12. How do I add a subject specific pathway to the framework? • In addition to the previous steps you will require an internal approval event • Documents required: • Brief rationale + statement of resource support • Course template • Module templates • Student handbook • Time frame • Ultra-fast
