  1. Ps. Danny Hanafi

  2. We are created in God’s Image • Genesis 1:27-28 (NIV) 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground."

  3. We are created in God’s Image • God wants to subdue and rule the world through us, who bears the semblance and image of Him; thus we need to know Him in order to wisely exercise our free will to conform into His image • Romans 12:2 (NIV) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

  5. His Compassion • Psalms 86:15 (NKJV) But You, O Lord, are a God full of compassion, and gracious, Longsuffering and abundant in mercy and truth. • Lamentations 3:32 (NKJV) Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies. • Matthew 14:14 (NKJV) And when Jesus went out He saw a great multitude; and He was moved with compassion for them, and healed their sick.

  6. Benefits of Compassion • Proverbs 19:17 (NKJV) He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord, And He will pay back what he has given. • Proverbs 22:9 (NRSV) Those who are generous are blessed, for they share their bread with the poor. • Proverbs 14:21 (TLB) But to despise the poor is to sin. Blessed are those who help them.

  7. Benefits of Compassion • 2 Corinthians 9:6-11 (NIV) • Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. 7 Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. 8 And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

  8. Benefits of Compassion • Proverbs 21:13 (NLT) Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need. • Proverbs 28:27 (NLT) Whoever gives to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to poverty will be cursed.

  9. Reason for Compassion • Giving alms helps us to have God’s heart and love; that is the blessing! • 1 John 3:17 (NLT) If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion —how can God’s love be in that person?

  10. Reason for Compassion • Giving alms helps us to have God’s heart and love; that is the blessing! • 1 John 3:17 (NLT) If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion —how can God’s love be in that person? • Deu 24:17 "Justice must be given to migrants and orphans, and you must never accept a widow's garment in pledge of her debt. 18 Always remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God rescued you;

  11. Reason for Compassion • that is why I have given you this command. 19 If, when reaping your harvest, you forget to bring in a sheaf from the field, don't go back after it. Leave it for the migrants, orphans, and widows; then the Lord your God will bless and prosper all you do. 20 When you beat the olives from your olive trees, don't go over the boughs twice; leave anything remaining for the migrants, orphans, and widows.

  12. Reason for Compassion • 21 It is the same for the grapes in your vineyard; don't glean the vines after they are picked, but leave what's left for those in need. 22 Remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt--that is why I am giving you this command.

  13. The Real Reward • “Break my heart with the things that break the heart of God” – Bob Pierce • Do you want that? • Philippians 3:10 (NIV) 10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, • The reward is to know Him
