Food and Drink • By 2020, the Government would like all schools to be model suppliers of healthy, local and sustainable food and drink. • Food should, where possible, be produced or prepared on site. • Schools should show strong commitments to the environment, social responsibility and animal welfare. They should also seek to increase their involvement with local suppliers.

  17. British Potato Council • Very successful Grow Your Own Potatoes activity • Challenges primary pupils to grow the heaviest yield of potatoes. • The potato growing starts on 1st March 2007 and need to harvest their crop by 21st June 2007. • Register online at www.potatoesforschools.org.uk

Ways Forward Possible Suggestions • Identify a champion, particular from governing body or senior management team to drive this forward • Carry out a Food and Drink audit and identify areas for development • Develop a Food and Drink policy including issues around sustainability • Include food and drink as a regular item on School Council • Set up a School Nutrition Action Group (SNAG) • Provide / access training opportunities for whole school to understand their role in supporting this aspect
