John Lennon • John Lennon was born in Liverpool. • He was assassinated outside his block of flats in New York on 8th December 1980. • On the 6th July 1957 John first met Paul McCartney during a church concert. • He wrote many songs with Paul, including “Strawberry Fields Forever”. • John was called the “Smart Beatle”.
Paul McCartney • Paul was born on 18th July 1942 in Liverpool. • He is still alive today. • He is in the “Guinness Book of Records” as the most successful musician in history. • He has had 29 number 1 hits in the USA, 20 were with the Beatles. • He was knighted in 1997. He is now SIR Paul.
George Harrison • George was born on 25th February 1943. • He was the youngest member of the Beatles. • George and Paul went to school on the same bus. • They both played the guitar and sang in a group called the Quarrymen before they formed the Beatles. • George died of cancer on 30th November 2001.
Ringo Starr • Ringo was born in Liverpool in July 1940. • His real name is Richard Starkey. • He was the last person to join the Beatles in August 1962. • Ringo played the drums and sang. • He is still alive today.
The Beatles • Had their first UK number 1 hit in 1963 with “Please, Please, Me”. • They were awarded the MBE in 1965. • They had 20 number 1 hits in the USA. • They split up in 1970.
