  3. the articles • There are 7 articles • They explain how the gov’t works • The first three articles just explains what the powers and responsibility of each Brach of gov’t • The rest of the articles address more general matters

  4. The judicial branch • The supreme court and lower federal courts live here • They have power to – • Interpret laws • Settle disputes between states

  5. The executive branch • The president lives here • He has the power to- • Enforce laws • Make treaties • Command armed forces

  6. The legislative branch • The senate and house of representatives live here • They have the power to- • Pass laws by majority vote • Declare war • Coin and borrow money • Approve treaties • Amend constitutions • Tax • Regulate commerce • Confirm presidential appointments
