What is the role of the EV? “ The primary role of the Qualification Verifier is to participate in the external verification of qualifications in the subject area(s) concerned to ensure that standards are maintained” (SQA 2014) “The Qualification verifier will ensure national consistency in assessment decisions…..Qualification verification is the process we use to confirm that SQA centres are assessing their candidates in line with national standards” (SQA 2014)

What duties does an EV undertake? • Plan and conduct verification visits • Ensure the validity and reliability of assessment instruments • Ensure the assessment instruments are being used correctly • Assess centres against verification criteria • Make recommendations on the level of risk • Set agreed action plans • Provide constructive feedback to centres and SQA • Carry out follow up events to ensure action plans are implemented • Participate in training and CPD
