This report revisits previous discussions on traffic shaping, specifically addressing issues with low-delay shapers that hinder the proper functioning of session-type queues (STQ) and lead to unnoticed congestion. We have introduced access delay timers on added traffic to effectively signal congestion rather than solely relying on shaping transit traffic. This includes modifications to the “isCongested” function, with added conditions for class B and C traffic. The effectiveness of these changes can be observed through data trends and shaper credit values.

Access delay timers on add traffic.Continuation of yesterdays discussion:http://www.ifi.uio.no/~steing/rpr/shapeD_sim.ppt Stein Gjessing Bjornar Libaek Petter Teigen July 3. 2003 802-17-01-nnnnn, iii_xxxxx_vv
Problem and solution • Tried to solve the problem that a low D shaper prevents STQ to fill and hence congestion to be unnoticed. • Have added access delay timers on add traffic to indicate congestion instead of shaping of transit traffic. • In the function “isCongested” on page 225 we added to the dual queue congestion condition: || classBaccessDelayTimerExpired ||classCaccessDelayTimerExpired • Should have added || classAaccessDelayTimerExpired also? 802-17-01-nnnnn, iii_xxxxx_vv
Next page shows: • The rate of A traffic received (by staion 62) from stations 31 through 61 • The rate of C traffic received (by staion 62) from stations 1 through 30 802-17-01-nnnnn, iii_xxxxx_vv
Next page shows • The value of station 61s shaper credit. • The amount of data (in percent) in station 61s STQ buffer. 802-17-01-nnnnn, iii_xxxxx_vv
