  19. North America Program – Certified Guiding Lion • Organize Membership Meetings • Establish a community awareness priority meeting that will show the • attendees how a Lions club can help improve their community. • The discussion will allow a group priority of the strength and • weakness of the community : • Each attendee is allowed to present the main thing they like about their community. • Next, ask the attendees to name the one thing that they would like to improved within their community • Demonstrate how a Lions club will help the participants accomplish their goals and perhaps with a story of how a Lions club accomplished a similar task.

  20. North America Program – Certified Guiding Lion • After identifying possible projects, ask the group if they know other • people in the community who could help the club accomplish these • objectives or would be interested in the club’s success. • Collect the names and contact information. Ask an attendee to • contact the individuals about the club and invite them to the next • meeting. • NOTE: This exercise is further outlined in “Making it Happen” booklet (TK-10) available from the New Clubs and Marketing Department at LCI or downloadable from the website.

  21. North America Program – Certified Guiding Lion • Club projects are determined by the members of the club based upon the unique needs of the community and the interests of the membership.

  22. North America Program – Certified Guiding Lion • Charter Night Celebration is an optional event, co-hosted by the sponsoring club and the newly chartered club. • The event provides a wonderful opportunity for the sponsoring club and the district to show their support of the new club. The sponsoring club with the aid of the Certified Guiding Lion will help coordinate the organization of the new clubs event. Take care not to overburden the new officers and distract the members from the service work that they plan to provide.

  27. Latin America Program • The progress in membership in Latin America is directly correlated to the L.A. Extension Program and the Global Membership Team. • I had the privilege to coordinate the L.A. Extension Program where some of its members are also GMT members.

  28. Latin America Program • 1. How do we do our program? • 2. What do we look for in our approach? • 3. How is our team composed?

  29. Latin America Program - Team Members • Argentina- PID Rodolfo Marinelli • Brasil- PCC Edisson Karnopp • Brasil- PDG Edward Lago Macedo • Brasil- DGE Dr. Ricardo Komatzu • Colombia- PID Dr. Libardo Bastidas • Costa Rica- PCC Gerald Mory • Ecuador- PDG Isaac Abad Crespo • Mexico-PCC Prof. Mario Gariel Padilla • Mexico- PDG Ramiro Vela Villareal • Peru- PGD Alejandro Galvez • Venezuela- PDG Dr. Lilia Morillo de Valencia • USA –PCC Yamandu Acosta- Coordinator

  30. Latin America Program • We work with pre-arraigned contacts. • The community is scouted for prospects, if they are selected (meet the LCI standards), a group of 2 or 3 will do an on site visit. • The visiting team has been trained with similar USA techniques.

  31. Latin America Program • We look for quality members with economical solvency. • We target professionals, business owners & retirees in those fields. University students are also targeted because they are future members meeting the LCI profile. • You know that this is the key to have strong and dedicated clubs.

  32. Latin America Program • Club Growth • Program began in 2007 and has formed 175 new clubs in Latin America.

  33. Latin America Program • What This Means… • LCI cannot afford to have clubs with members that cannot meet the social and economical challenges of a dynamic club. We are not elitists, but must have certain social levels and cloud to make things happen. Through connections we can move the world. The image of the Lion member must be an elevated one. • Latin American Lions believe in a selective process for membership growth. Our Program has been designed to meet that challenge.

  34. Latin America Program • Next Steps: • A dynamic duo between the Extension Consultant and the governor has made the difference in the progress of Brazil, Mexico, Peru, Colombia and Venezuela. The GMT members inspired the governors to make the difference. • What does this mean for the project?

  35. Latin America Program 1) The governor meets with the extension chair. 2) Select the community to found a new club. 3) Select the host club and its Guiding Lions. 4) Meet with local authorities and receive information. 5) Determine the community needs. 6) Meet with committee and requests a consultant. 7) Consultant meets with the local team and presents an extension workshop. 8) Techniques are developed to reach the prospect members. 9) Writing letters, personal contacts and visits. 10) The first meeting place, date, and time are determined. 11) One member of the team is in charge of follow up. 12) He will writes a thank you note, makes a phone call. 13) He calls again the night before the scheduled meeting. 14) The team will have the first meeting to found a club.
