  1. Upcoming Seminars • 19th November - Alex (Demo Room) • 26th November - Dade • 3rd December - Clare • 10th December - Niruwan • ---XMAS BREAK--- • 7th January - Dayah • 14th January - Areeb • 21st January - Leisha • 28th January - Yulita • 4th February - Till • 11th February - Mike • 18th February - Farhana • 25th February - Debra • 4th March - Rozi • 11th March - Will

  2. IDIUMS: A system for sharing between different adaptive applications by Rikki Prince

  3. Coming up next... • Introduction • My Mini Thesis • Adaptive Applications • Sharing User Models • Problems and Solutions • Architectures • Argument

  4. Adaptive Architecture De Bra 2003 – AHA! The Adaptive Hypermedia Architecture

  5. Overlay Model • Concepts • Attribute-Value pairs

  6. Domain Model Loops Structure Condition Update Math Operator Applications Logical Comparison Process List Nested CONCEPTS! Repeat x

  7. User Model Logical Comparison ATTRIBUTES!

  8. Conversation Adaptive Hypermedia Adaptive Game What is Rikki’sknowledge of programming loop conditionals? What is Rikki’swhat...?

  9. Conversation (cont) Adaptive Hypermedia Adaptive Game While we’re at it, how many attempts has Rikki had at completing the programming variables level? Huh?!

  10. My Solution: IDIUMS Adaptive Game I don’t know, but I do know Rikki has played a game about that and completed it twice. Rikki must know it pretty well... IDIUMS Adaptive Hypermedia What is Rikki’sknowledge of programming loop conditionals? Rikki’sknowledge is 66%

  11. How? • Preset Rules • Application-specific Rules • Collaborative Filter • Relate attributes with equations • Thresholds

  12. Experiment? Current Plan Potential Get larger set of users to use Adaptive Hypermedia and Game, with and without IDIUMS. Survey users on how appropriate material was for them. Analyse difference between with IDIUMS and without. • Get small set of users to use Adaptive Hypermedia and Game. • Introduce third adaptive application (assessment?) • Have domain expert predict expected adaptions. • Compare to those IDIUMS makes.

  13. Architectures Adaptive Game Adaptive Hypermedia IDIUMS Recommender System Adaptive Assessment

  14. Architectures Linked Data Linked Data Adaptive Game Adaptive Hypermedia Linked Data Linked Data Adaptive Assessment Recommender System

  15. Load on Each Application • Expose their data • Handle interpretation of non-native attributes • Stay up to date

  16. To distribute or not • Makes sense for infrastructure • Do users like it? • Flickr + Twitter + del.icio.us == Facebook 10m 5m 3m 300m

  17. Discussion • Are you happy with data everywhere? • Would you prefer it in one place? • Is Facebook indicative of users’ preference for centralisation? • Would it warp the web if data was stored per user, not per site?

  18. Summary • Different applications produce different attributes. • This makes sharing harder. • IDIUMS is a rule based converter. • Centralised architectures make more sense for user data.
