  • ADDIE is an acronym for Analyze, design, develop, implement, and evaluate.

  • ADDIE came about in the Cold War after World War II.
  • You will often hear ADDIE referred to as Instructional Systems Design (ISD), Instructional Systems Design & Development (ISDD), Systems Approach to Training (SAT) or Instructional Design (ID).
  • Most of the current instructional design models you will find in the workplace today are variations or spin-offs of the original ADDIE model.

  • Because the learners can achieve the goals of the desired course.
  • Because it allows for the evaluation of learner's needs.
  • Because of the design and development of training materials
  • Because it uses evaluation of effectiveness of the training program using processes with specific, measurable outcomes.

  • The ADDIE Model is intended to guide individuals through the process of creating and evaluating instruction.
  • The purpose of instructional design is to maximize the value of instruction for the learner.

Conclusion
  • What I have understood about Instructional Design is that it’s a framework for educators to process and develop a course which will help educators deliver a lesson effectively. It is a generic process traditionally used by Instructional designers and training developers. The five steps in the ADDIE Model represent a guide for building effective training, and also a performance support tool.
