  1. Select this Text and Type in Your Title Here Title Letters Should be Greater than 1 Inch James L. Smith and Jane E. Jones, Department of Chemistry, Any West Virginia College Abstract Materials and Methods Results Conclusions Approved Fonts and Colors FONTS: Palatino Arial COLORS: Maroon: RGB values: 79, 1, 38 Tan: RGB values: 206, 204,170 ACCENT COLORS: Light Tan: RGB values: 229, 228, 208 Mustard: RGB values: 213, 209, 135 Blue: RGB values: 144, 164, 189 NOTE: These colors are already in this template’s color scheme Our primary colors are maroon & white We use tan as our secondary color. The accent colors are ones we use in our palette for variety. View our web site for how we use them. Uncalibrated monitors may not display these colors accurately. These are the instructions for creating new text boxes. You will need a separate text box for each section of your poster. Start by inserting a text box onto your poster slide - click on the “Insert” pull-down menu and select “Text Box”. You will get a cursor. Place it anywhere on the slide and start typing. Change the fill color to white, and change the font from the default to something that will be visible from about 4 feet away (24 point minimum). Right click anywhere in the text box and select “Format Text Box”, then click on the “Size” tab. Set the text box size to 11 x 8.5 inches (this mimics a standard page size - you can change it later if you need to), then click on the Text Box tab. Change all of the internal margins to 0.5 inches, and select the “Word wrap text in autoshape” and “Resize autoshape to fit text” options. Deselect the rotate text option. When you have the text written to your satisfaction, you can add a border to the text box. Right click anywhere in the text box and select “Format Text Box”. Click on the “Colors and Lines” tab and, under “Lines”, select the color, style, and weight that you want the border to be. This text box has a border weight of 25 points. You can increase or decrease the border weight to achieve the look you want. Use a right justified alignment for a clean look. Click on the “Format” pull-down menu and select “Alignment”4 “Justify”. Drag the text box anywhere on the slide. Be sure to have someone else carefully proofread your text before you send your file to be printed. Poster size prints are expensive - so typos, misspellings, poor grammar, etc. are better caught at this stage. You might want to change the poster background colors. Right click anywhere on the poster background and select the “Background . . .” option. You will open a dialog box that allows you to change your slide background. Use the pull down menu in the dialog box to change background colors and fill effects. Choose the color and effect that best match your presentation - you may want to contact other students at your school to choose a common background scheme. DO NOT distort (squash or stretch) the Fairmont State Logos. Hold SHIFT when enlarging or reducing the graphics to constrain their proportions. Introduction Literature Cited Click on a text box and change the zoom to 100% to read the preparation instructions. Delete all of these example text boxes before printing. This template is for a 36”x48” poster.
