  5. Glitz Pageant Time Devotion • Most glitz pageant contestants practice everyday during pageant season. • They often miss school because of traveling to a far away pageant. • School and education is no longer the child’s main focus – pageants are.

  7. Damaging Psychological Effects • Girls become obsessed with their appearance. • Feeling of always being judged can lead to depression. • Need to be thin and pretty can lead to eating disorders • Constantly being compared to their peers can cause insecurity.

  8. Interesting Facts • The incidence of alcohol and drug abuse is higher among child performers. • In the US, over 100,000 children under 12 compete in beauty pageants each year. • Parents sometimes lie about their child’s age so that winning will be easier. • One pageant can cost over $2,000.
