  2. Para usar el pretérito… • We use the preterit to talk about events that were completed in the past. • There is a definite start and ending of the action • The narration of events • Q: What did you eat today? • A: I ate a banana.

  3. Regular –ar verb endings Hablar = To talk

  4. Práctica… • Yo ____________ (hablar) porteléfonotoda la noche. • Mi amiga _________ (usar) mi computadora. • Mi padre yyo _________ (comprar) un regalopara mi madre. • Victor y Miguel __________ (escuchar) los ipodsdespués de _________ (tomar) el examen.

  6. Regular –er/-ir endings • ¡Buena noticia! –er/-ir verbs share preterit endings!

  7. ¡Ojo! • -ar and –er verbs that stem change in the present tense do NOT have a stem change in the preterit. • However, -ir verbs stem change in the preterit. • -ir verbs only change in the s.p.o.t. and p.p.o.t
