Introduction • The Government’s commitment and efforts to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment are reflected in the ratification of numerous international conventions and instruments such as Convention on • Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), • Beijing Platform for Action, and the • United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights, among others KNBS

Demographic Characteristics • Explores how change in population growth and distribution directly affect the living conditions of people and gives a gender perspective of the major demographic characteristics; fertility, mortality, migration and urbanization. • These demographic factors have profound effects on human development along the lifecycle e.g. age at first marriage, age at first birth etc. KNBS
