Why and How the Survey was Developed • Aims: • Comparing policies and practicalities • Understanding state of the art within the field • Making contact with others using same technologies and solutions • Getting ideas on what works from others • Mapping developments over time • Getting a sense of the range of services being provided • Processes: • Seeking relevant questions to re-use related surveys • Remote brainstorming of questions • Validation and addition of questions at RDA Plenaries • Consideration of whether questions are ambiguous and actually answerable • Consideration of possible answers and ontologies • Narrowing of questions to a manageable length • Selection of survey tool and building of survey • Testing • Tracking distribution

  4. The Survey Structure & Questions • Introduction • About the Institution and Respondent • Governance • Infrastructure and volumes • Services: • Research Data Storage (for ‘live’ data) • Research Data Repository or Archive • RDM Advisory Service • Research Data Back-up Service • Data Management Planning Service • Research Database Hosting • Electronic Lab Notebooks • Data Safe Haven or Sensitive Data Handling • Dark Archive • Local/Remote File Synchronization • Special Data Collections Showcase • Any other data management Services • Gaps and integrations • Personal details (if happy to share) Repeating question set for each service
