  4. THIS IS THE CANADIAN FLAG • THE CANADIAN FLAG IS RED AND WHITE. IT HAS A PICTURE OF A MAPLE TREE LEAF IN THE MIDDLE.

  5. THIS IS CANADIAN MONEY

  6. WHAT CANADA MEANS? • The Name "Canada" • Canada is derived from the word "Kanata" which in Huron-Iroquois language means "village" or "settlement". • The word Kanata was first heard by Jacques Cartier while he was requesting directions to Quebec City, which in 1535, was the Indian village of Stadacona.

  7. CANADIAN POPULATION • The population of Canada is approximately 33,100,000.

  8. CANADIAN CUSTOMS • The most common greeting is the handshake. • It should be firm and accompanied by direct eye contact and a sincere smile. • Wait until invited before using someone's first name although Canadians tend to move to a first-name basis rapidly. • French Canadian friends may greet each other by lightly kissing on the cheeks (once on the left cheek and once on the right). • If using French in Quebec always use the formal pronoun "vous" (you) when speaking to someone and do not switch to the informal "tu" unless invited to do so.

  9. Canadian Culture • Canadian culture is a term that explains the artistic, musical, literary, culinary, political and social elements that are representative of Canada and Canadians, not only to its own population, but people all over the world. Canada's culture has historically been influenced by European culture and traditions, especially British and French. Over time, elements of the cultures of Canada's Aboriginal peoples and immigrant populations have become incorporated into mainstream Canadian culture. It has subsequently been influenced by American culture because of its proximity and migration between the two countries.[1][2]

  10. Canadian Languages • Languages of Canada[1]Official language(s)English (58%) and French (22%)Indigenous language(s)Abenaki, Algonquin, Babine-Witsuwit'en, Beothuk, Blackfoot, Broken Slavey, Bungee, Carrier, Cayuga, Chiac, Chilcotin, Chinook Jargon, Coast Tsimshian, Comox, Cree, Dene Suline, Dogrib, Gwich’in, Haida, Haisla, Halkomelem, Hän, Heiltsuk-Oowekyala, Innu-aimun, Inuinnaqtun, Inuktitut, Inupiaq, Inuvialuktun, Kaska, Kutenai, Kwak'wala, Labrador Inuit Pidgin French, Malecite-Passamaquoddy, Michif, Mi'kmaq, Mohawk, Munsee, Naskapi, Nicola, Nitinaht, Nlaka'pamuctsin, Nuu-chah-nulth, Nuxálk, Ojibwe, Okanagan, Oneida, Onondaga, Ottawa, Potawatomi, Saanich, Sekani, Seneca, Sháshíshálh, Shuswap, Slavey, Squamish, St'at'imcets, Tagish, Tahltan, Tlingit, Tsuut’ina, Tuscarora, Tutchone, Western Abnaki, Wyando

  11. The Capital Of Canada • The capital of Canada is Ottawa.

  12. 1rst Main Attraction • The Canadian Rockies • What & Where: Straddling the British Columbia/Alberta border, this mountain chain runs from the U.S. border to the northern end of British Columbia. • Why: Within the Canadian Rockies is some of the most beautiful, serene and, at the same time, breathtaking scenery on the earth’s surface. These mountain jewels are distinct from the American Rockies as they have been very heavily glaciated, resulting in sharply pointed mountains separated by wide, U-shaped valleys gouged by glaciers, whereas the American Rockies are more rounded. That’s why, even though the Rocky Mountain Range runs from Northern British Columbia to New Mexico, Canada can claim their very own “Rockies” as a distinct attraction.

  13. 2nd Main Attraction • Niagara Falls • What & Where: Niagara Falls is actually three separate, massive waterfalls located on the Niagara River at the southern tip of Ontario, on the border between Canada and the United States: The Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls, and the smaller, adjacent Bridal Veil Falls. The crescent-shaped Horseshoe Falls is also known as the Canadian Falls as it is mostly in Canada. Why: The Falls are one of the truly natural wonders of the world. The sight and thunderous sound of the cascading waters are mesmerizing and the mystic power of the falls will always stay with you.

  14. 3rd Main Attraction • Cabot Trail (Nova Scotia) • What & Where: This 300 km trail through the highlands of Nova Scotia’s Cape Breton, on Canada’s east coast, is actually a drive; a beautiful, scenic loop carved into the side of mountains that rise high above the waters of the Gulf of St. Lawrence. It winds around Cape Breton’s northern shore, ascending to the plateaus of Cape Breton Highlands National Park. Why: Cape Breton has been rated one of the best Island destinations in the world and this is in no small part to the Cabot Trail that offers breathtaking vistas of Cape Breton’s rugged coastline, where pods of whales and bald eagles are a common sight. Cape Bretoners are unusually hospitable and welcome you with their “100,000 welcomes”, or “Ciad Mile Failte” as they say in Gaelic. Cape Breton’s most famous resident, Alexander Graham Bell, once said “I have travelled around the globe. I have seen the Canadian and American Rockies, the Andes, the Alps and the Highlands of Scotland, but for simple beauty, Cape Breton outrivals them all.”.

  15. 4th Main Attraction • What & Where: Canada’s largest island, and the fifth largest island in the world, lying between Greenland and the Canadian mainland, in the territory of Nunavut. Known to the local Inuit as Oikiqtaaluk, it was later known to the Norse as Helluland. • Why: In our ever-shrinking world, Baffin Island still offers pristine, raw nature at its most beautiful: Vast vistas of untouched scenery, interrupted only occasionally by small Inuit villages – a people that still live with respect for, and in pact with, their environment. There is an abundance of wildlife including walrus, several whale species, caribou, polar bear, arctic fox, arctic hare, lemming, arctic wolf, seals, migrating fowl, shore birds, sea birds etc. Since most of Baffin Island lies above the Arctic Circle all the communities from Pangnirtung and north are privilege, and subject to, polar nights and the midnight sun. How: Calm Air, Canadian North, and First Air offer scheduled air service to communities in Nunavut from gateway cities. Inuit Air, Unaalik Aviation, Air Nunavut and Ken Borek Air offer chartered and scheduled service throughout Nunavut.

  16. Last Main Attraction • Vancouver/Victoria • What & Where: Vancouver is a metropolitan city in the southwest corner of British Columbia, on Canada’s west coast. Victoria is a smaller city at the south end of Vancouver Island – a 1 ½ hr. ferry ride, or a 30-min. flight away. Why: These 2 cities are among the prettiest and cleanest cities in the world. Vancouver is set beautifully where the mountains meet the sea and for large parts of the year you can both golf, sail, swim and go skiing – all in the same day! Victoria is set beautifully in a protected harbour at the south end of Vancouver Island. British Columbia’s capital, it is just a very pleasant small city with an old-world British charm.
