  5. By the of the lesson • All pupils will have played the smarties game • All pupils will have written a report about how there population has changed over time • All pupils will be able to collect data for two different countries • Most pupils will be able to the data to explain population change in that country.

  6. Play the smarties game • You will be working in groups of 6 • On each table is a set of instructions • Each group needs to choose a team leader who will explain the rules of the game • You will be expected to complete the sheet provided during the game.

  7. Using your findings Write a report using the headings about how your countries population changed during the cause of the game. What happened and how did it affect the population at each point? Example During the game my country experienced a deep economic recession. Poverty and the lack of jobs meant that a lot of males migrated to a countries where they could find jobs. This meant the population began to decrease due to migration. Having less males in my country also meant less children were born in the future; decreasing the population further.

  8. Look at these two countries What does the data tell you about the population of each country? How are they different and what could the possible reasons be? Read page 145 In 6 to 8 sentences; compare reasons for Russia’s and Yeman’s population change.
