  2. About Kealakekua Bay • It is a marine life conservation district • There is a pod of spinner dolphins that swim there frequently. • It is a great place to see Hawaiian Sea Turtles because it is very likely you will see one. • The bay is located in south Kona on the Big Island. • Captain Cook sailed through here when he first came to Hawai’i island.

  3. Importance The most important event that happened here probably is that this is where the first westerner arrived on Hawai’i Island.

  4. Interesting Facts About Kealakekua Bay This is the area where Captain Cook sailed through to reach the Big Island Hikiau Heiau is located on the east side of the bay The last interesting fact is that Captain Cook died here and the monument that they dedicated to him is located near here.

  5. Map Kealakekua Bay is located in south Kona.

  6. REFLECTION In the process of my research I learned that Captain Cook docked here on his first trip to Hawaii Island. I also learned that Kealakekua means path way of the gods. Another interesting thing I found out is that today the bay is a Marine Life Conservation District. On the shore of the bay Captain Cook died in a fight with the natives. This was an important place for the native Hawaiians because on one side of the bay is where Hikiau Heiau was located. It is also where the first western arrived on Hawaii Island. I sailed there!
