  2. Location In Geography we are learning about the coasts around the British Isles. Here is the coastline of Morecambe Bay located on in the northwest of England which lies across the counties of Lancashire and Cumbria. Morecambe Bay

  3. Population The area of Morecambe Bay has a population of 319,100. This population is the total number of residents in the towns within Morecambe Bay which are Barrow-in-Furness, Morecambe, Fleetwood, Ulverston, Heyshamand Grange-over-Sands.

  4. Eric Morecombe Morecombe Bay is mostly famous for the comic Eric Morecombe. Eric was born on the 14th May 1926 in Morecombe, this is why there is a statue of him there. But, he unfortunately died on 28th May 1984.

  5. Cockle Pickers The bay has rich cockle beds, which have been fished by locals for generations. On the night of 5th February 2004, 23 Chinese immigrant cockle pickers drowned after being cut off by the tides. This tragedy led some commentators to suggest that the cockle beds should be closed until improved safety measures could be introduced.

  6. Barrow-in-FurnessShipyard The BAE Systems Submarine Solutions shipyard at Barrow is one of the largest shipyards in Britain. The shipyard is currently constructing the Astute-class submarines the first of which was launched on 8 June 2007.

  7. Key Facts • About 20 minutes away from the Lake District • It is the largest stretch of mudflats and sand in the United Kingdom, covering a total area of 310 km². • The rivers Leven, Kent, Keer, Lune and Wyre drain into the Bay
