  1. Lesson Plan 2: Web 2.0 Using StoryJumper.com to write short stories

  2. Learning Objective The fifth grade students will follow directions in small groups to brainstorm and fill out a graphic organizer after a teacher modeling, and will use the writing process to draft a short story with all 7 components.  They will continue to cooperate to publish and present their story to the class using StoryJumper.com.

  3. Standards Alignment: VSC 4.0 Writing: Students will compose in a variety of modes by developing content, employing specific forms, and selecting language appropriate for a particular audience and purpose. Writing Compose texts using the pre-writing and drafting strategies of effective writers and speakers Compose oral, written, and visual presentations that express personal ideas, inform, and persuade Compose texts using the revising and editing strategies of effective writers and speakers

  6. Condensed Procedure Teacher Modeling w/ samples (motivation) and how to use StoryStarter and graphic organizer Group practice – students organize, draft, revise and edit story Computer lab – students work in groups to publish story using StoryJumper.com Closing – students present stories and discuss importance of the elements of a story.

  7. Community Connection "Tea Time with the Authors" - students can invite family and friends to come after school to share refreshments and listen to them present their story.

  8. Parent-Home Connection Students can send the stories to their parents (with teacher help) and teacher will send home a letter/email about how they can order the story to be printed.  Students and parents are encouraged to read the story together, as always, along with other reading materials.

  9. Cross-Curricular Extensions StoryJumper can be used for any sort of publication - science experiment "lab report," Social Studies biography, Math "how-to". The possibilities are endless.
