The essay expects you to analyze historical changes and continuities that have shaped events and developments through history. • Students will be able to recognize change as it occurs in history and identify and understand the causes of change. • Students will be able to recognize factors which remain the same and which allowed this to continue over time. Purpose

  3. Step 1: Process the question- what is it asking me to do? What are some key phrases? What is my background knowledge of changes and continuities? • Step 2: Build a framework- Create a timeline or graphic organizer to outline your information. • Step 3: Build your essay- Create your thesis statement. • Step 4: Write it- Be sure to use analysis of continuities and changes.   4. The essay prompt will lead you to choosing a specific method of essay writing. You need to be fluent in multiple approaches and be ready for any type of prompt. • These are meant to be tools in your toolkit that you can employ at will. • Your essay requires a starting point, transition and ending point. • Pre-writing is mandatory. You should spend 5 minutes organizing and outlining your essay. Outlining

Intro paragraph with thesis and support information (2 changes + 1 continuity OR 2 continuities + 1 change). • 3-4 body paragraphs (1 each on major points with historical evidence and links to global context). • Conclusion restating thesis and showing that you have proved your case. • Whatever organizational structure you take needs to include BOTH continuity and change and the analysis of both.
