  4. What is Sangat? “Sangat” is the congregation of two or more people. Our Sangat can be anyone we interact with on a daily basis. Can you think of any examples of sangat from your life?

  5. What significance does Sangat have in Sikhi? sµgq(Sangat) comes from 2 words -sµg + gq sµg(Sang) = Gathering of people gq (gqI)(Gat or Gati) = Liberation (become One with God) Sangat = Is a gathering of Sikhs to attain liberation – to become one with Vaheguru (God)

  6. Bidhi Chand the Thief Bidhi Chand was a very successful thief who would rob villages at night when everyone was asleep and would always get away with it. One night when everyone was asleep Bidhi Chand decided to rob another village. He had just finished robbing all the houses when he decided he would now also take all their cows too. While taking the sheep out of the village, Bidhi Chand didn’t realise the noise of the cows had awoken the villagers.

  7. Bidhi Chand Bidhi Chand soon realised he was being chased by the villagers, who were fast approaching. He knew he would be caught with the Cows with him, so in the cover of darkness he abandoned the cows. As the villagers were so close, he knew he could not out run them and decided to hide. Having found their cows, the villagers began to look for the thief. Bidhi Chand knew he would be caught so he began to run again - praying to God to save him. He was begging God that if saved he would change his ways. Just then, he came across someone on the river banks in the darkness praying aloud. It was Bhai Adli Ji, a Sikh of Guru Arjen Dev Jee who was sitting on the banks of a lake at 2am doing Simran of Vaheguru.

  8. Bidhi Chand Bidhi Chand asked Bhai Adli Ji to help him as he was in trouble. Bidhi Chand explained what he had done and how he was prepared to change. Sensing the sincerity of Bidhi Chand, Bhai Adli Ji told him to sit down with him and do simran of Vaheguru. Bidhi Chand asked “How will doing Simran help me?” Bhai Adli ji replied “This is no normal word and when recited with True devotion, it will resolve all your affairs….just have faith” Bidhi Chand began doing Simran with Bhai Adli Ji with full devotion. Soon after, the villagers came upto them meditating. They asked Bhai Adli Ji, whether he had seen a thief who had robbed their village. Bhai Adli Ji being a Saintly being and not able to lie, replied “The thief your looking for is sitting right next to me”

  9. Bhai Bidhi Chand The villagers thought Bhai Adli Ji was joking as only a saintly person would be awake at 2am and doing Simran…so they left. Bidhi Chand was so engrossed in simran, he knew not what was being said. When he opened his eyes, to his amazement, he saw it was daylight. He then realised that it was the simran done in the sangat with Bhai Adli Ji that had saved him. The power of simran done in Sangat transformed Bidhi Chand from a thief into a Saint. Bidhi Chand later on went on to become a Sikh and played a very important role in Sikh history for which he is famously known by all Sikhs as Bhai Bidhi Chand Ji
