Use Naviance to search for colleges, scholarships, and careers. Request letters of recommendation, transcripts, and additional forms through Naviance. Apply to colleges on specific sites such as CSU Apply, UC Admissions, and Common App.

  1. Naviance& the College Application Process • In addition to using Naviance to search for colleges, scholarships, and careers • Students will be able to request letters of recommendation, transcripts, and additional forms through Naviance

  2. Naviance is NOT an application tool • You will still be required to apply to colleges on specific sites such as: • www2.calstate.edu/Apply • www.admission.universityofcalifornia.edu • www.commonapp.org • Or apply online with site specific applications

  3. Naviance & Common App Private School & Letters of Rec

  4. Have you … • Made a Common App account? • Did you write down your password somewhere? • Have you added colleges on Common App and in Naviance (under “Colleges I am applying to)? • Are you doing Early Decision? (Under “My Colleges>Questions” on Common App) Both your parents and your counselor need to sign off on that!

  6. How to use Naviance during the college application process 1. Research colleges and add them to “colleges I’m thinking about” 2. Once you have narrowed down your list, you can move all schools from “colleges I’m thinking about” to “colleges I’m applying to”

  7. Example of Colleges I’m Applying To page 1. Request transcripts before you have submitted your applications. Do not request it for CSUs or UCs unless the school requests it from you. 2. Request at least 2 letters of recommendation from teachers for privates. You can also send a short message to teachers letting them know when you need the letters by. 3. Guidance advisors are required to write letters of recommendation, too. You must meet with us at least three weeks before you submit your applications.

  8. Utilizing Naviance Update all your information! This is what will appear on your Common App forms.

  13. About recommendations Not sure about adding another recommender? Ask us first! Did you already ask one/two teachers? Do NOT assign teachers inside Common App. Students MUST manually input them into Naviance once they get a verbal confirmation.

  14. Letter Of Recommendation (LOR) Surveys Counselor LOR survey Teacher LOR survey Parent(s) should fill out this survey To help teachers & counselors write your letters complete these surveys!

  15. Requesting Recommendations You should have a teacher signature on your pink sheet and his/her consent BEFORE you add a request!

  16. Naviance monitoring 1. Once you click on view detailed status 2. You will be able to see if your forms have been submitted
