  3. Calendar Development Process • 29 Calendar Committee members • 13 parents appointed by CCPTA • 14 APS staff (administrators, teachers, department representatives) • 1 AEA representative • 1 TCI representative

  4. Calendar Development Process (cont.) Committee members: • Shared committee draft calendar with constituents • Used feedback to develop the Calendar Committee’s draft calendars • Forwarded the draft calendar to the Superintendent with recommendations

  5. Survey Process • Survey posted on APS Web site from Jan 21 – Feb 19 • Respondents provided some details about themselves and selected priorities among several choices • Open ended items allowed respondents to provide other suggestions

  6. Survey Cautions Potential concerns: • Individual might have taken survey multiple times • Respondents might reflect special interests and not the general population • Background information is self-reported

  8. Survey Results Of the 906 respondents: • 45% want to end school early • 42% would like to maintain present holidays • 19% would like to extend winter break

  9. Survey Results (cont.) End School Early: • 55% of the respondents would be willing to give up 1-2 days • 34% of the respondents would be willing to give up 2-3 days • Days to give up – Columbus Day and Veterans Day

  10. Superintendent’s Proposed 2010-11 School Calendar Changes: • Spring Break April 18-22 • Wednesday, June 22 – Early release only for Early Release Schools

  11. Superintendent’s Proposed 2010-11 School Calendar (cont.) Changes: • Thursday, June 23 – Full day for all elementary schools • Friday, June 24 – Early release day for all elementary schools

  13. Make-up Days - Elementary • One to Five Days Lost

  14. Make-up Days - Middle • One to Five Days Lost • The first five days lost are not made up. • Three make-up days are built into the calendar; and • Two equivalent student attendance days are built into the calendar by previously adding four instructional minutes to the end of the school day

  15. Make-up Days - High • One to Five Days Lost • The first five days lost are not made up. • Four make-up days are built into the calendar; and • One equivalent student attendance day is built into the calendar by previously adding two instructional minutes to the end of the school day

  16. Make-up Days - Elementary • Six or More Days Lost • The sixth day lost would not be made up • The seventh day lost would be added to the end of the year • The eighth day lost would not be made up • The ninth day lost would be added to the end of the year

  17. Make-up Days – Middle and High • Six or More Days Lost • The sixth day lost would not be made up • The seventh day lost - February 21 • The eighth day lost would not be made up • The ninth day lost - April 1, Teacher Grade Preparation Day
