  2. My Objective • English 9 is a class that should be both challenging and interesting to you. • My goals as your teacher are to introduce you to world literature and to help you make wise choices for your future.

  3. My Expectations • Be prompt. • Be prepared. • Be persistent. • Be polite.

  4. Required Materials • 1” 3-ring binder with 4 dividers • Loose leaf paper • Pens (blue or black ink) or pencils • Flash drive • Highlighters (blue, green, and yellow only) • Post-it Notes • **Advanced 9 needs a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird

  5. Daily Routine • Beginning of class: Enter quietly. Begin working on the bellringer IMMEDIATELY. Sit quietly when you finish until you are given further instructions. • During class: PARTICIPATE! Do not bring work for other classes. • End of class: Clean up the area around your desk. The bell does not dismiss you; I do. You are not cattle, so there is no need to herd around the door!

  6. Passes • Emergency ONLY • Use this privilege wisely. If your “emergencies” become excessive, you will not be allowed to leave the room.

  7. Grading SystemPoints earned/points possible= your grade Tests/Quizzes: You are allowed one re-take per nine -week period for a test scored below 65%. You have ONE WEEK for a re-take. Name: An MLA heading is required on all assignments. You will receive a five- point deduction without it. Grading Method: 60/30/10 60% Major tests/Projects/Presentations 30% Quizzes/Class work/Small Activities 10% Homework

  8. Make Up Work • You are responsible for make up work without a reminder from me. • Check my web page for assignments or ask a friend. All work must be completed within 3 days of your absence. Exception: extended absences

  9. Late Work • If an assignment is not completed by the assigned due date, you will receive the following credit: • One day: 50% maximum credit • Two days: 0% credit

  10. Extra Credit • Students who complete ALL assignments and activities on time MAY be given an opportunity to do extra credit assignments at my discretion. • If you fail to do required assignments, do not ask for extra credit assignments. You do not get to create your own curriculum. 
